LIFEbaby product care

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your baby garments made of?
We use 100% cotton and/or in some instances, linen in most of our children's apparels. The materials used for our baby garments are stated in our garment tags and product descriptions in our e-shop catalogue for your reference.

Washing Tips

How do I wash my LIFEbaby garment?
You can follow the washing instructions found on our garment tags. Depending on the material used in your LIFEbaby garment, we have listed down some care tips for some of the more common fabric types found in our product range.

100% Cotton Knit (Tees)
  • It is normal for 100% cotton garment to shrink about 2% in its first wash.
  • Coloured garments last longer if they are washed inside out.
  • Shirts retain their shape better if they are dried hanging on a clothes hanger. Straighten the seams and collar and the shape will be better retained and the shirt easier to iron.
  • Knitted garments retain their shape better when they are dried flat.
  • Do not dry coloured garments in the outdoors under direct sunlight. They will become discoloured and "sun-bleached".

Silk Care
  • In order to maintain the original lustre, texture and beauty of our silk products, dry cleaning is highly recommended.
  • You may also hand wash it in lukewarm water using a very mild soap (free of harsh ingredients and artificial frangrance) or woolwash (normal detergents are the wrong pH for animal fibers like wool and silk).
  • You may also add a table spoonful of clear white vinegar added to the final rinse. The last step helps to set the colour into the fabric and reduces the rate of further colour fading.
  • Always hang dry silk in the shade, preferably where there's a mild breeze.
  • Before ironing, turn the garment or cushion cover inside out first while it is still slightly damp. If already dry, place a damp cloth on the outside and iron through the cloth. This helps prevent scorching the finish of the fabric.

Linen Care
  • Be gentle when laundering linen: use a gentle wash cycle or handwash and use just a little gentle soap. We like Ivory Snow (powder), but some people swear by Woolite, some people like Orvus Quilt Soap (available at some Quilt stores as well as many Saddle and Tack shops!) and some even use their favorite shampoo. Whatever you use, follow the package directions. Place delicate, embroidered or fringed linens in a lingerie bag before putting them into a washing machine.
  • Use cool to warm, not hot, water. Wash colored linens in cool water. Soft water is important: Hard water forms a soap scum that make linen stiff and dull.
  • Launder stains when fresh. If allowed to set, stains may be permanent.
  • Use oxygen bleaches (hydrogen peroxide) for white linen. Experiment to see how much is needed. Chlorine bleaches can cause yellowing.
  • Try a couple of tablespoons of cream rinse for your hair in the final rinse cycle. Linen is cellulose fiber, and many of our customers swear this makes their linen more lustrous.
  • If hand washing, rinse very thoroughly. Removal of all soap will help prevent large brown spots on linen, which are caused by oxidation of cellulose by residual soap.
